Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Top of PageDo I have to register?

Registration is not required to view any topics on this bulletin board.  However, registration is required to participate in any of the Forums, to post new topics and reply to existing posts, for example.  Additionally, registration will allow you to edit or delete your own postings, receive an e-mail when someone replies to your post and other such benefits.  Registration is free and only takes a few moments.  The only required fields are your LoginName and UserName, which may be your real name or a nickname, and a valid e-mail address.  The information you provide during registration is not sold, rented or outsourced for use by anyone other than rvNetLinx.

Top of PageWhat type of postings are allowed?

Almost anything you can think of is allowed.  This is an RV bulletin board, so naturally topics related to the RV lifestyle will be the main focus.  However, there are other topics of interest that could be posted as well.  For instance, if you had a great trip to Disneyland and want to share your experiences and helpful tips, go right ahead.  Even if your trip didn't involve an RV, your helpful hints could be of general interest to the RV community.  Again, it's you board so use it as you like.

Top of PageAre there any postings that are not allowed?

Yes there are!  This is not an advertising forum or vendor corner.  Nor is this a place for vendors to place ads and sell their wares.  Therefore, postings of a commercial nature are not allowed on this Forum and will be deleted.

Top of PageAnything else not allowed on the Forum?

Yes again.  We have noticed on our old BBS that many visitors were posting their RVs and other items for sale on the board.  But we do have a free Classifieds System for this purpose.  We would like to keep the Forum clean and used for what it was intended; RVers helping other RVers.  So if you have an RV for sale, please post it on our free Classifieds System.  Based on feedback and e-mail we have received, the Classifieds System works

Top of PageHow about posting URLs to other RV Bulletin Boards?

This is a tough one for us.  We do realize that not every post receives a reply, and a fellow RVer is just looking for help with his/her problem.  So we think it only fair that they should be able to ask and find an answer to their question, even if it is on another RV BBS.  However (yes, there is a "however") there are other webmasters, and other RVers for that matter, who just post the URL to their own BBS to drive traffic away from us and to their own website.  And, sad but true, they are just looking for free advertising.  We at rvNetLinx have never posted anything on another BBS referencing our website or BBS, nor have we encouraged others to do so.  So, we're torn on this issue.  For now our decision is that, if in our opinion someone is just trying to drive visitors away from rvNetLinx and to their own website or BBS, these posts will be deleted immediately.  If we believe they are a genuine post to help out a fellow RVer, we will leave the post alone.  If anyone has a better idea, please drop us an e-mail and let us know; your suggestions help and they matter to us.

Top of PageWill my postings ever be edited or deleted?

Under normal circumstances, no.  However, we will monitor the Forum to ensure that it is being used properly.  Postings by vendors will be removed immediately.  Postings of a "For Sale" nature will be notified to post their ad on our Classifieds System.  The post will be removed after approximately 24 hours.  Additionally, we want to keep the board clean, so any postings of a pornographic nature, improper language or other content inappropriate for the general public or this Forum will also be removed.  It is not our intent to control the postings on this board, but we do reserve the right to edit or delete postings as we deem appropriate for this Forum.

Top of PageWhy aren't links active when I view a posting?

If a link is not active, it simply means that you cannot perform that function.  For example, unless you are the author of a particular post, the "edit" and "delete" icons will not be active.  Also remember that to utilize any of the functions (post new topic, reply to a posting, e-mail the author, etc.), you must be a registered user and be logged in.  Otherwise none of the icons will be active.

Top of PageHow can I use smilies and images?

You've probably seen others use smilies before in e-mail messages or other bulletin board posts.  Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile or a frown .  This bulletin board automatically converts certain text to a graphical representation when it is inserted between brackets [].  Here are the smilies that are currently supported by the rvNetLinx Forum.  These smilies will also be displayed when you post.

Top of PageCan I add a hyperlink to my messages?

You can easily add a hyperlink to your message.  All that you need to do is type the URL (i.e. http://www.rvnetlinx.com), and it will automatically be converted to a URL (http://www.rvnetlinx.com).  Note:  Just make sure to prefix your URL with http:// or https://, or it will not be converted.

You can also add a mailto link to your message just by typing in your e-mail address.  For example, typing in "ForumAdmin@rvnetlinx.com" will automatically be converted to a URL (ForumAdmin@rvnetlinx.com).

Top of PageCan I change the format of my text through HTML?

For security reasons, the use of HTML tags in any field on this Forum is not allowed.  HTML tags would allow a devious visitor to post some pretty nasty code and totally destroy the board.  Worse yet, someone who is a tech wizard could actually post some code allowing them access to this website, and possibly the server.  It has happened at other boards.  So for now, HTML tags are not allowed.

Top of PageWhat do I do if I forget my UserName and/or Password?

Lost your UserName and Password?  Not a problem.  In the "Login" page, click on the "Can't log in?" link.  A small window will pop up for you to input your e-mail address.  If your e-mail address is verified, your Login information will be e-mailed to you.
