: I have an 86 Jayco 5th wheel with a Nor-Cold frige in it. I was wondering how long it should take for the frige part to get cold when using Gas. The freezer got really cold fairl quick but the frige doesnt seem to be cooling. Its been about 3 1/2 hours. I live in So. Cal so its fairly hot here. Also the unit does not work at all when I try to switch it over to A/C. Thanks in advance

Glen,

First let it cool down at least 12 hours......next did you are any time smell ammonia? or when you pull the exterior refer panel off is there yellow powder? That would indicate your cooling unit has blown. It is posible to buy rebuilt cooling units.......keep that in mind. Now if it won't swtich over that is usually the PC Board. Those can be replaced with an after market called a Dino Board 7-11. A better board, we think at our dealership. However not knowing when it was last cleaned and serviced is an issue. Spiders and wasps like to make nests in refer units from the outside and take up residence in the burner tubes, etc. I can offer you a couple of free suggestions. First try cleaning the exterior area of your refer.Run a thin wire into the burner tube. If that doesn't work remove the refer, turn it upside down and let it sit at least 24 hours. Sometimes that will re-mix all the chemicals.......put it back together.plug in for at least 12 hours. Then if this isn't working find a repair facility you can trust. Word of mouth from satisfied cutoemrs is the best. You need a tech to really tell you what the problem is.

Best of luck,

Robin
