: We are looking to purchase a RV within the next few months that we will be using for full time. Are there some brands that we should absolutely avoid? We would appreciate any info since we don't want to get stuck with an unsafe and reliable RV. Thanks

Linda,

Well, full knowing that one cannot be "all things to all people", Fleetwood's complaints do seem to be on the increase...

Your best bet here is go to the various BBS's and read the reviews that owners have submitted... While some curse a particular brand, others seem to love it... While some have many problems with a brand. others do not...

Still, you will get a feel for what people are having fewer problems with these days by reading the RV BBS's and reviews...

From what I have read recently, Jayco, Nash, Skyline, and Sunline seem to be pretty popular these days... Jayco and Skyline (Skyline does Layton, Nomad, Aljo brands) have both been around for quite a long time and are established in the Industry... The other two, Nash and Sunline are not as old as the other two companies...

Personally, I have a 1999 27' Nomad which has been very trouble free since it's purchase 3 years ago... I have also heard very good things regarding the Jayco units...

Go to RV shows and look around and read, read, read... Talk to other RV'ers and then look around some more... You will eventually find what you are looking for and before you buy, post your prospective purchase on a few BBS's and see what folks think... Don't be afraid to walk away if the comments are generally negative... You can generally negotiate a discount of 20-30% off MSRP with 25% being the typical discount figure... I bought my Nomad for 26% off MSRP...

Good Luck and Best Regards,
Les
